Hurricane Matthew Leaves Many Pets Without Homes

The devastating Hurricane Matthew tarnished the eastern seaboard this October, destroying homes from Florida all the way up to North Carolina. Volunteers have reached out to assist displaced and distressed animals, many of whom were left behind as families fled their homes without access to an animal shelter.

Volunteers rode in small boats, looking for lost pets. They discovered cats on top of book cases and other tall surfaces, and dogs clinging to beds and couches. The animals that were rescued were brought to safe locations, and efforts are now being made to help the worried pet owners become reunited with their pet. So far, 24 pets have been rescued and all but six have been returned back to their owners.
